Create and Edit Text Files



You can create new text files, or open existing text files in Local and Cloud storage. You can open text files by using JotterPad's built-in file File Directory. When creating a new text file, you will be prompted to create:

New text file (.txt)
New Markdown file (.md)
New Fountain file (.fountain)

File directory in Mac

File directory in Web, also known as "Workspace"

Only supported text files and folders will appear in your file directory. Unsupported files will be hidden in the directory.

Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that you files are stored properly in the local storage.

Please note that third party apps can modify and delete text files in both Local and Cloud Storage.


Create New Text Files



Android:

Press the + Floating Action Button to create a new text file. When you create a new text file in “Local”, it will be stored locally on your device in the “JotterPadX” folder by default. If you create a new text file in Cloud storage (i.e. Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive), it will be stored in the Cloud.


iOS:

Press the + button in the app bar to create a new text file. When you create a new text file in “Local”, it will be stored locally on your device in the “JotterPad” app folder. If you create a new text file in Cloud storage (i.e. Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud), it will be stored in the Cloud.


Mac:

When you create a new text file, it will be stored locally in your device by default. If you wish to create a new text file in Cloud storage (i.e. Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud), Click New Document in a cloud storage.

Method 1: In the Start Screen > Click New Document to create a new markdown or fountain document​.

Method 2: In the Start Screen > Select File in the Menu > Select New.

Web:

When you create a new text file, it will be stored in the database that is built into browser by default. If you wish to create a new text file in Cloud storage (i.e. Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud), Click + in a cloud storage.

Method 1: In the Start Screen > Click New Document to create a new text, markdown or fountain document.

Method 2: In your Workspace > Click on + New to create a new text, markdown or fountain document.

Edit Existing Text Files



Android:

Tap on the thumbnail of the file to open and edit.

iOS:

Tap on the thumbnail of the file to open and edit.

Mac:

Method 1: In the Start Screen > Click on an existing document shown in Recent > select Open > Edit existing text file.

Method 2: In the Start Screen > Click Open Document to open an existing document (.md, .fountain, .fdx) from your computer > Edit existing text file.

Web:

Method 1: In the Start Screen > Click on an existing document shown in Recent Items > Edit existing text file.

Method 2: In Start Screen > Click Open Document > select an existing document from your Workspace > Edit existing text file.
