# Change File Name

## Android
All files are required to have a filename. To change file name: 
Tap and open a File > Tap  `⋮` > Tap `Rename`.

|| You are not able to add the following symbols \/:*?”<>| as these characters are not recognised as filename on some operating system (e.g. Windows). JotterPad overrides the illegal symbol with a hyphen symbol.

## iOS
**Method 1**: Tap on a file and hold to reveal context menu > Tap 'Rename'.
**Method 2**: Tap and open a file > Tap  `…` icon (top right hand corner of your screen) > Tap `Rename`.

## Mac

**Method 1**:

To rename a file in editor, click on the file name > Edit the `Name` field.

**Method 2**:

To rename a file in file directory, right click on the File > Select `Rename`. Please note that you can only rename a downloaded text file in cloud storage. A downloaded text file is indicated by a green tick cloud icon.

In your Workspace > Locate the File that you would like to rename > Click on the `⋮` icon > Select `Rename`.
